Unprecedented: two dégustation editions of the international organic wine award in spring and autumn 2020

PAR®-Jury will run the tastings from the 08th of May until the 10th of May, as well as from the 16th of October until the 18th of October 2020

Frasdorf, January 2020 – Since the number of submitted wines has been continuously exceeding 1000 products during the last years, Wine System AG together with Head of PAR® tasting Martin Darting decided to launch two editions of this prestigious contest in 2020. The reasons for this decision are quality management and high time investment and staff involvement required by the PAR® method, as well as the intention to make this event more customer-friendly following numerous requests for an alternative date. To provide a high quality of the competition that is especially valued for its transparent assessment, the qualified auditors will operate in groups of three to offer an individual assessment of each wine according to PAR® system. The competition is open to the organically certified white, red and rosé wines, as well as dessert, sweet, sparkling, pearl wines and specialities. Registration deadline is the 24th of April and the 25th of September 2020.

Along with the enduring trend for organic products and sustainable lifestyle, the request for bio wine from all over the world steadily grows. Likewise, in the case of foodstuff, consumers are prepared to pay more for bio, the quality needs to be right. The transparency in quality-related issues is precisely the focus of the 2010 established international organic wine award. Like all competitions organised by WINE System AG, the tasting is run according to the sensory audit system PAR® that is an abbreviation for Product – Analysis – Ranking. Thanks to the analytical and documentary approach of the sensory audit system, the dégustation team can approach the diversity requirements of such competition in a complex and objective way. Each submitted wine receives replicable and accurate documentation of its sensory and oenological characteristics its origin, climate and style, respectively.

For the first time, the usual event date in July will be replaced by two tasting sessions that are going to take place in May and October. This change is based on the fact that many winemakers were not able to submit the current vintage because the bottling took place later than the registration deadline. Besides, the PAR® system requires a consistently high time and human resources standards, and that does not get along with a too high number of participants very well. 2020, producers, retailer and consumers can expect not only the unprecedented spectrum of the international ranking, but they may further on count on quality and objectivity of the results.

Besides attracting attention brought by this award, many producers appreciate the revealing analyses underlying the PAR assessment. They precisely show which criteria have led to matching results and provide valuable documentation for quality management.
